BYLAWS TO THE CONSTITUTION

These bylaws shall specify the means of carrying out the policies stated in the Southwestern Adventist University MBA Students Association (MBASA) Constitution.

 ARTICLE I

 Authority and Terms of Office

Paragraph 1: Authority.

             The officers of the MBASA shall derive their authority by being elected to office in accordance with the rules set by the MBASA. They shall be the chosen    representatives of the student body.

 Paragraph 2: Term of MBA Student Association Officers.

             Newly elected MBASA officers shall assume office the day after the spring  semester ends.

  

ARTICLE II

Standing Committees and Their Functions

Paragraph 1: Approval.

            All appointments to committee posts shall be shall be subject MBASA approval.

 Paragraph 2: General Committee

            The general committee shall be appointed by the MBASA by and when needed.

Paragraph 3: Social Activities Committee

            The Social Activities Committee shall consist of the Social Vice-President and two other individuals, which will be nominated by the Social Vice-President and confirmed by the MBASA.

Paragraph 3a: responsibility of Social Activities Committee.

            The Social Activities Committee shall be responsible for directing all MBASA-sponsored social activities.

Paragraph 4: Tenure of Committee Members and Appointive Officials.

             The tenure of all committee member mentioned in Article II of the bylaws and of appointive officials in any position held within the MBASA framework shall be for the duration of the academic school year for which they are appointed. They shall maintain an academic load of six (6) credit hours per term and maintain citizenship standing as defined in Student Handbook. 

 

ARTICLE III

 Dues and Stipends

 Paragraph 1: Dues.

             The annual dues of the MBASA shall be assessed for the coming year by a committee consisting of the President (Chairperson), Vice-President, and       Financial Vice-President. These dues must be approved by the Board of Trustees.  The MBASA shall rely upon the Business Office of the University to collect these dues at registration time.

            This year the MBASA committee has decided on a $25 mandatory due at the beginning of each semester starting Fall 2009. These funds will go to the MBASA budget for the activities and the future development of MBASA.

 Paragraph 2: Percentage of Budget for Stipends.

             Stipends shall be ten (10) percent of the total MBASA fees each semester.

 Paragraph 2a: Distribution of Stipends.

            MBASA officers may collect the full amount of their stipends the beginning of     the second month each semester.

           

ARTICLE IV

Duties and Powers

 Paragraph 1: The Executive Council.

           The Executive Council shall assist the MBASA President in executive functions and may advise the MBASA in matters before that body. The council shall supervise and coordinate, under the authority and standards set by the MBASA and this Constitution, all activities undertaken in the name of the MBASA.

Paragraph 1a: Executive Council Meeting Absences.

            Any Executive Council member missing more than two meeting without an excuse accepted by the Council will lose five (5) percent of his/her allotted stipend.

Paragraph 2: President.

            The MBASA President shall be the chief executive officer of the Association and an ex-officio member of all MBASA Committees. The President shall call all  meetings of the Executive Council and the MBASA General Assembly and shall be the presiding officer at each. He/she shall have general authority over MBASA standing committees.

Paragraph 3: Vice-President.

             The MBASA Vice-President shall be next in responsibility to the MBASA President and shall exercise the executive power should the President become   unable to carry out his/her duties. He/she shall function as parliamentarian in all General Assemble meeting and follow Robert’s Rules of Order in determining parliamentary procedure.

Paragraph 3a: Filling Vacancy in Presidency.

            In the case of a vacancy in the office of President, the Vice President will become President and President Pro tem of the MBASA and will fill the vacant office of Vice President.

Paragraph 4: Religious Vice-President.

             The Religious Vice-President shall be responsible for the direction and coordination of all MBASA sponsored religious activities, in harmony with the    working policies of the spiritual development. He/she shall be an ex-officio member of all subcommittees. She/he shall serve as a lea son between the MBASA and spiritual development department at SWAU.

Paragraph 5: Social Vice-President.

             The Social Vice-President shall be responsible for direction and coordination of  all MBASA sponsored social activities. He/she shall be chairperson of the Social  Activities Committee and shall be an ex-officio member of all subcommittees.

 Paragraph 6: Financial Vice-President.

             The MBASA Financial Vice-President shall maintain a record of all financial affairs of the MBASA. He/she shall keep the Executive Council informed of the MBASA financial status at least once a month. She/he shall be responsible for the collection, maintenance, and disbursement of all MBASA funds.
